DYI Kits for the Community

Collecting essential items year-round is a powerful way to support community members before, during, and after disasters. DIY kits are an innovative way to engage the community in disaster preparedness and recovery while addressing the unique needs of vulnerable populations. From hurricane preparedness supplies such as non-perishable food, water, batteries, flashlights, and first aid kits to items that aid in disaster response and recovery like hygiene products, cleaning supplies, and snacks, these contributions make a tangible difference. These efforts ensure that vulnerable populations have access to critical resources when they need them most.

If you would like to donate supplies to support these initiatives, please reach out to the USF CERT Director, Elizabeth Dunn at eadunn2@usf.edu to coordinate the pick-up of your donations. Together, we can build a more prepared and resilient community.

DYI Preparedness Kits

For preparedness, communities can assemble kits for refugees and low-income families that include essential items like water, non-perishable food, first aid supplies, and emergency contact information. Pet Preparedness Kits can provide food, leashes, collars, and portable water bowls to ensure pets are safe during disasters. Mothers & Babies Hurricane Preparedness Kits can include diapers, baby formula, wipes, blankets, and other infant necessities to support families with young children.

DYI Recovery Kits

During disaster response and recovery, DIY kits can be tailored to provide critical aid to those in need. Snack Kits with easy-to-eat, non-perishable foods can offer immediate relief. Hygiene Kits with soap, toothbrushes, sanitary items, and towels can help maintain dignity and health. Comfort Kits for Kids can include comforting items like small toys, coloring books, and blankets to create a sense of normalcy. Flood Clean-up Kits with gloves, disinfectant, trash bags, and sponges can empower individuals and families to begin the recovery process. These kits not only provide immediate support but also foster a sense of solidarity and compassion within the community.
